Two classic resorts in Maldives for budget travelers. Both belong to the same Maldivian chain: Villa Hotels and Resorts. Both made it to our cheap hotels in Maldives list.

Paradise Island opened as a resort in 1994, and Sun Island did it 4 years, later, in 1998. Both have the same concept: Maldives on a budget. Both are among the cheapest options in the Maldives, especially for the overwater rooms, so if price is a major factor then you should consider them.

Rooms

Both are big resorts: Sun Island Maldives has 458 rooms, and Paradise 282.

Paradise’s overwater rooms are new and more luxurious. Also more expensive. They have overwater with pool, while in Sun Island you can find only overwater rooms.

Transfers

One of the main differences is the transfer. Paradise Island is near Male, so the transfer will be done by speedboat (20 minutes). Sun Island is located in the famous South Ari atoll, so the transfer will be done by a short domestic flight (around 20 minutes) following by 5 minutes by speedboat, that will take you from the island of the airport (Maamigili) to the resort. And you have to take into account that speedboat transfers are usually faster to board, while for domestic flights you will have to wait for the scheduled time.
